The School Forest Enterprise in Kostelec nad Černými lesy is a university farm of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. The main activity of SFE is to provide practice and exercises for CZU Prague students, and to support them in writing scientific papers and research projects. Over 4,000 students pass through the enterprise annually in collective and individual educational events. The enterprise was founded in 1935, and its basis became the forest lands near Kostelec n.Č.l. and the pond cascade in Jevany. The current size of the administered area is approximately 6,900 ha. Various specialized centres were established here over time.

Forest Management
The enterprise tries to manage forests as gently as possible and support the natural renewal of these growths where possible, and to utilize the shelterwood economic method as much as possible. The species composition of our forests is dominated by conifers, but their percentage is gradually decreasing. The Forest Management also manages the Voděrady Beechwood National Nature Reserve. Sale of timber abroad is extremely rare.

Nursery activity
Another SFE operational unit is the Ornamental and Forest Nurseries Centre. This centre produces over 2 million seedlings in more than 500 species and 2,000 cultivars of ornamental trees per year. It also looks after the production of forest seedlings for forest regeneration on its own territory. Surpluses also are used for sales to a lesser extent. The centre exports some of its goods abroad and is also involved in importing according to the requirements of our customers.

Aquaculture and Gamekeeping
The Aquaculture and Gamekeeping Centre also plays a significant role by ensuring the operation of the pond cascade on the Jevany creek. Fish production is a long-term activity of the SFE. The fish species that are bred are carp, tench, grass carp, pike, perch, catfish and bass. Other species of fish are secondary and are primarily used as food for fish predators. The centre provides group and individual hunting of hoofed game, in particular wild boars, and the sale of game and fish. The Head of the Aquaculture and Gamekeeping Centre is Ing. Kamil Šebek. SFE also manages a chateau in Kostelec nad Černými lesy, where, in addition to training, a number of social events, conferences, seminars, weddings, concerts, etc., are also held. We offer spaces for short and long term rental, and our kitchen provides catering. The chateau has a large accommodation capacity in affiliated boarding houses and everything can be arranged “in one place”.
The chateau is operated by the Service Centre headed by Pavel Šebesta.
